We were planning on starting the “cleanse” on May 1. Between the nervous anticipation, a juice that expired a day earlier than expected and a 6:30 AM juice delivery, we decided to bite the bullet. Actually, the dog decided for us. Once our 36 juices were tucked safely into the fridge, M and I went back to bed. “Should we just start today?,” he asked. “Not it” was our mirrored response. So, I did what any logical person would do when in need of a tie breaker. I asked the dog. Left meant we were starting, right meant we weren’t. He picked left. We started our juice cleanse. We reasoned that since we had Wine Club pick-up on Saturday, this gave us something to look forward to. I’ll remind myself of that in a day or two.
Hilariously, right before my phone rang letting me know my juice was on its way, I was having a dream that instead of juice, JRINK delivered us a box of food by accident. Ribs, pulled pork, lasagna, all sorts of good stuff. Sigh. I have a feeling this isn’t the first food dream I’m going to have over the course of the next three days.
We picked JRINK Juicery after trying one of their juices (the morning of my birthday, in fact). They cold-press juices which is supposed to retain more of the nutrients in the juices. Over the next three days (during the 3-Day Reboot), we drink six juices each per day, plus unlimited water with lemon or coconut water. JRINK also gives you one Superfood Bar per day, which is made by Kate Bakes. The bar is made of the pulp of the green juice and you’re encouraged to nibble on it throughout the day if you are hungry. Ordering online from JRINK is easy — enter your info, a credit card and pick a delivery day. They offer a lower price for a “Buddy Up ‘N Save” deal, which M and I were happy to take advantage of. A few things are unclear on the website; specifically, when to have your juice delivered. The answer, the morning you want to start — NOT the day before as M and I did. Hence the reason we’re starting today instead of tomorrow as originally planned.
Luckily our meals over the last few days have pretty much adhered to the recommended pre-cleanse diet with the exception of a little cheese (me) and caffeine and beer (him). Hopefully it doesn’t effect us too much. The pre-cleanse diet is supposed to be centered around whole foods, and we’ve done a pretty good job of that. Green smoothies in the morning (including an avocado, pineapple, banana that I’m already looking forward to post-cleanse), salads with lots of veggies for lunch, and vegetarian for dinner. We had grilled portobello mushroom “burgers” last night loaded with veggies.
I’m a juice in at this point (Fuel Me Up: Pear, Kale, Cucumber, Romaine and Lemon). My stomach is starting to grumble, but it’s also time for juice two — a carrot, orange, grapefruit blend that I’m really looking forward to. Check back tomorrow and I’ll recap how Day One went for me!
We think JRINK is pretty awesome. We’re not being compensated for this post and we paid for our juices from our very own wallets.
