Smooth Operator

There hasn’t been a whole lot of cooking going on since M has been out of town. I think I needed a little bit of a cooking break. Last night I went out to dinner with some friends. I dragged them to the same place M and I had our “anniversary” date this month — Water and Wall. We sat at the bar, and, much to my very pleasant surprise, found the restaurant offered their full menu for $35 for 3 courses. So much for my plans to have a light snack at the bar and something easy at home… Instead I enjoyed Sweet Potato Gnocchi, Short Ribs, and the best Apple Tart. Clean plates all around and my very critical friend raved the entire meal. I guess we have a new spot!

This morning I decided to forgo my usual coffee and make myself a smoothie. Before our wedding, I was drinking one of these every morning, but I somehow got out of the habit. My pants can tell the difference, and so can the scale. I love sneaking greens in my smoothies, and I had stockpiled some frozen berries when I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s this week.

I added half a banana and a handful of kale.

As well as a few whole almonds and 1/4-1/2 cup of plain non-fat greek yogurt.

Blend that up for a minute, and then add in 1/2 cup of frozen berries (I used TJ’s blend of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries) and enough low-fat milk to bring it to your desired consistency. I would have preferred Almond Milk, but it wasn’t something I had on hand.

Blend until smooth and pour into a glass.
